Varroa mite treatment in the UK PoshBee colonies

This update on the progress of the PoshBee WP7 was provided by Robin Dean.

It’s September, and in the beekeeping world, it’s time to treat the bees for varroa which are the parasitic mite devastating bee colonies across the world.

Robin of The Red Beehive Co. is putting Apivar strips into one of the PoshBee colonies to ensure they will be fighting fit to start the postponed semi field work for WP7.

It might already be autumn, but with the almost record temperatures the UK has had this year, the bees have not stopped collecting pollen just yet.

Here several workers are arriving back home with their pollen baskets stuffed with ivy pollen, for it is their last chance to stock up the larder before winter really sets in.

In order to ensure the study goes ahead flawlessly in 2021, Matt Allan of Atlantic Pollination and Robin Dean of The Red Beehive Co. had to raise new sister queens to head up the colonies for winter, and into spring/summer 2021.
